There's something mesmerizing about watching Wire EDM work.
That bright line of electrical discharge dancing along the cut path. The cascade of sparks as thousands of precisely controlled electrical pulses remove material atom by atom. It's the kind of thing you could watch for hours.
This particular job is cutting aluminum - a highly conductive material that makes for especially dramatic sparking. Each burst of light represents the wire and workpiece never actually touching, just getting close enough for electricity to arc across the gap, melting away microscopic amounts of material with each discharge.
The result? Precision cuts that would be impossible with conventional machining. Complex geometries. Tight tolerances. And yes, occasionally, a pretty good light show.
(We added the EDM soundtrack ourselves. Seemed fitting.)
